A Word from Job 9

Do you ever look at the all challenges surrounding you and wonder why God hasn't done something to make things right? Maybe you personally have struggled with a loss, or illness, or the anxiety that comes from uncertain times. Or maybe you've look at the world around you; and you've see so much need, and conflict, and pain. And you've wished, perhaps, that you could "schedule a meeting" with God to give him a piece of your mind. 

Well, in today's word from Job Chapter 9, Job felt that way! You know about how much he suffered. And part of what made his torment even worse was the feeling that he'd never be able to "get an audience" with God. There was no way to "close the gap" that separated the Lord Almighty from earthly creatures like us.

And so, Job complained: "If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together...Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot." (Job 9:33, 35)

Of course, what Job didn't know at the time was that God would provide that mediator! He Himself would enter into all the challenges and pain that we face, and He would become the bridge that allows us to "approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we can receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Heb. 4:16)

So obviously, I hope you're not facing many challenges today. But if you are -- or if you know somebody who is -- let's have that meeting with God, giving thanks for the Mediator who makes that meeting possible. Amen.
